Make sure the room is warm and that youre not in a rush, or likely to be interrupted. Choose a time when your ab isnt too hungry or too tired, then bath time can be more enjoyable. Fill the bath with of water at about 36°C (96°F). It should feel warm but not hot to your skin. Check by dipping your elbow in it. Collect everything else you will need:
2 Towles (accidents happen!)
Baby Sponge
Johnsons Baby Bath / Shampoo / Softwash
Clean Nappy
Baby Oil or Lotion
Nappy Cream (if needed)
Clean Cloths / Pj’s
Undress your lil one but keep his/her nappy on. Wrap him/her in a warm towel, folded over at the back so you can easily cover his head with it afterwards. You can wash your lil ones hair now. Tuck him/her under your arm and support his head with your hand. Hold him face-upwards over the bath. Tip your lil one downwards slightly so that the water wont run into his/her eyes. Using your other hand, pour some water over his/her hair and massage this in. Rinse your lil ones hair with the warm water. Pat his head dry with a warm towel. Unwrap the towel covering your baby, remove his nappy and put the towel nearby. You will need it to wrap him in when he comes out of the bath. Place one arm under your lil ones back, so that his head and back rest against the bend of your elbow, and your hand has a firm grip on the arm furthest away from you. Then use your free hand to support your lil ones legs and bottom while you lift him/her into the bath. Wash him/her and sprinkle water over him/her to keep him/her warm so that he can enjoy the sensation. Rinse him/her well with the sponge or flannel to get rid of all the soapy bits. Lift him/her out of the bath onto the towel on your lap and wrap him/her up to keep him/her warm. Pat your lil one dry and then dress him/her. Put him/her somewhere safe while you sort out the bath things.
